Melvin L. Elson, M.D. is a board-certified dermatologist who graduated from The University of Tennessee Summa Cum Laude and received his MD from Duke University School of Medicine, trained in internal medicine at Vanderbilt Medical Center and in dermatology at Duke University Medical Center. He is considered an expert in evaluation and treatment of the aging face, particularly with expertise in the use of filling materials for scars and wrinkles, Botox and cosmeceuticals. He trains physicians world-wide in the use of these and in evaluating the aging face, having lectured in 31 countries. Additionally, he has been frequently a guest on television talk shows including Good Morning America, Good Morning New Zealand and CNBC’s Vital Signs. He is often interviewed by US and international publications on the aspects of aging.
He is the author of more than 200 scientific publications, as well as 2 books including the textbook Evaluation and Treatment of the Aging Face published by Springer-Verlag. A member of the American Academy of Dermatology, board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology, he serves on the board of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and is a member of a number of international societies.
He has served as a consultant to a number of boards, cosmetic and drug companies and developed MD Formulations and MD Forte skin care lines as well as assisting in the introduction of RoC products into the United States and developed ESTEEM by Naomi Judd skin care line. He holds the patent on topical vitamin K for the treatment of blood vessel disorders of the skin and has a patent pending for a topical treatment of cellulite.
He founded the Longevity Institute in Nashville, which became one of the leading centers for treatment and training of the aging face. He and his wife of over 40 years (former Betty McElhiney of Dickson, TN) live just outside of Nashville, have 2 daughters and 2 grandsons.
